Hiroshima Peace Tree Dedication

  • Gresham Japanese Garden 219 South Main Avenue Gresham, OR, 97080 United States (map)

Oregon Koto-Kai will provide music before (~9:40 AM) and after the event. Below is a brief description of the event as listed on the City of Gresham Website.

—The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) has awarded Gresham a special Ginkgo tree grown from seeds  that miraculously survived the Hiroshima atomic bombing in 1945.

Japanese native and Oregonian Hideko Tamura-Snider survived the bombing and helped ODF obtain the seeds to support her wish for peace trees to be planted across Oregon in recognition of the 75th anniversary of the Hiroshima bombing. To date, 32 communities in Oregon have planted 47 peace trees.—
